Imagine, it’s a couple days before Thanksgiving and your water heater just conked out! You and your wife are off for the holidays with three screaming children at home. On top of that, the in-laws are set to arrive Thanksgiving morning and plan on staying for the weekend. You’re about to have a full house with zero warm water! You’ve got a couple days to get it fixed or the water heater won’t be the only thing busted. Your holiday will be ruined!
Never fear, your home warranty is here! Well, that’s if you have one. The fix is as easy as getting on the phone and calling your warranty provider. When they answer, all you need to do is give them your contract number and let them know what the problem is. They’ll charge you about $65 to send out the plumber. With them knowing that Thanksgiving is around the corner, your warranty company might make it an urgent request. The warranty company will send out a licensed and insured plumber on your behalf that they have already worked with before. When the plumber arrives, there’s no need to pay the technician because the $65 (estimated) fee was already collected over the phone. If the plumbing has gone bad, they’ll fix it. If the water heater has gone bad they’ll replace it. Now you’re probably thinking it’s going to cost extra to replace the water heater but that’s where you’re wrong and the biggest benefit of the entire warranty kicks in. The warranty company will replace your water heater if it’s completely busted at no additional charge. The only charges you end up with is the $65.00 service fee and the original contract cost of usually somewhere between $500 to $1000 a year. If you have an old home or don’t know much about fixing things yourself, this could be a huge money saver for you compared to hundreds of dollars in repair cost for having an appliance fixed, your pool fixed, or needing roofing repairs.
To cap everything off on your warranty; your warranty usually expires a year after you purchase it. It also usually allows you to renew it for the same price (not always though). There is an unlimited amount of times that you can call out a service technician, and there is no up-charging after the original service fee.
Home warranties are a great investment! They give you peace of mind knowing that you don’t have to blow hundreds if not thousands of dollars on repair cost when what’s important to you is spending money on your loved ones.
